What do foreign language assistants do?

Your job involves a combination of administrative tasks with translation and correspondence duties.

You take on typical administrative tasks in office management across all sectors. As a communications contact for national and international business partners, you are also responsible for maintaining these relationships and networks.

The main areas of focus therefore range from handling multilingual correspondence, general appointments, travel and event management to conventional administrative work and looking after corporate clients and international guests.

How does the training course work?

In the two-year training programme to become a business assistant in foreign languages, you will gain all the knowledge you need for the job in the following subjects: economics, accounting, secretarial practice, word processing and foreign languages. In English, the focus is on professional communication and translation activities and/or negotiation interpreting. You can also learn French as well as Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Spanish, any other language of your choice.

In the second year of your studies, you will supplement your theoretical knowledge with practical experience, as you will complete a 3-month internship in a company you get to choose. You can do the internship in Germany, but you can also do it abroad.

The training programme ends with state exams in English, French, economics and secretarial practice, for which you will of course receive intensive preparation.
