As environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil energy generation, the most important forms are wind, solar and hydrogen systems as well as geothermal energy: Wind, solar and hydrogen systems as well as geothermal energy are the main focus of this specialist area.

Here are a few typical areas of responsibility:

  • Laboratory activities related to research (e.g. optimization of solar modules)
  • Outdoor installation and assembly of plants and systems (nationwide/Europe-wide assembly work)
  • Climbing assignments (installation and maintenance of systems on roofs and wind turbines)
  • Industrial production of components and machines
  • Drafting of technical drawings (with CAD)
  • Consulting and support

How does the training take place?

The school-based training in renewable energy technology lasts three years and includes preparation for the technical college entrance qualification. At the beginning of the 3rd year of training, you will attend a 7-week internship at a company of your choice, where you can apply the knowledge you have acquired in real-life situations and gain initial experience.

You also have the opportunity to attend further internships or themed projects to further optimize your starting position for your career entry. With the state final examinations in the training specializations and other general subjects, you will acquire the recognized vocational qualification and the advanced technical college entrance qualification.

Does the profession suit you?

Ideally, you have the following skills in energy technology:

  • An interest in electrical engineering
  • Manual skill and diligence
  • Technical and mathematical understanding
  • Logical and spatial thinking
  • Don't panic if you don't meet all the requirements. Simply apply and we will find out together in an interview whether the vocation suits you.

Career

With this apprenticeship you can work for companies in the electrical industry:

  • at energy suppliers
  • at manufacturers of electrical systems and components
  • at electrical installation companies
  • at engineering offices

With the additional achievement of the advanced technical diploma, you will be fit for further studies at a (technical) university and thus lay the foundation for a successful professional career.
